Building & Safety

Welcome to the Building and Safety Division. This Division provides plan check, permits, inspections, and other services related to the demolition, alteration, and new construction of public and private structures.

This Division employs a certified Building Official holding one or more code certifications and has primary responsibility for construction administration among City Departments and coordination among project architects, engineers, property owners, and the State Contractor’s Board. The Building Official also serves as the Rehabilitation Construction Specialist for the City’s Neighborhood Preservation Program and acts as liaison with the Ventura County Fire Protection District that provides the City with emergency and fire inspection services.

ONLINE PERMITTING IS HERE!  We are excited to announce the City of Port Hueneme is replacing its current permitting and business license software with the new OpenGov software system.

What this means for you - The advantages of the new system will be to: allow the public to apply for a variety of Planning, Building and Public Works permits, as well as business licenses, on-line; pay for the permits on-line; and check the status of their applications without the need to come into City Hall. The new system will also allow City staff to more seamlessly process these applications, resulting in faster processing times.

If you do not already have an account, we encourage you to set up an account with opengov.com, to be able to use the new program when it comes on-line.   City staff will be available to assist you with any issues in submitting or checking your application.
