Rod Butler has been Executive Director of The Port Hueneme Housing Authority since December 5, 2016. He has nearly 30 years of local government management experience and previously served as City Manager fore three California cities: Crescent City in Del Norte County, Patterson in Stanislaus County, and Upland in San Bernardino County.
Butler earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California Riverside and a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University at Long Beach. He is a member of the International City-County Management Association (ICMA), the California City Management Foundation (CCMF) and the City Manager's Department of the League of California Cities.
Butler's areas of expertise include economic development, budge and financial management, building and developing executive teams, and working closely with City Councils to identify key priorities and goals, then implementing effective strategies for achieving those goals.
During his time thus far in Port Hueneme, Butler has focused on rebuilding the Executive Team (new Police Chief, new Finance Director, new Public Works Director, new Deputy City Manager, and new Community Development Director); successfully implementing the City Council's new cannabis-based business ordinance; investing available funds in better maintenance at the City's parks and facilities, and developing new streams of revenue to ensure the long-term financial viability of the City.
