Port Hueneme resident for nearly four decades, former City employee, and now self-employed consultant, Tom Figg was elected to the City Council in November 2014. Before establishing his urban planning firm in 1998, Tom served as Planning and Redevelopment Manager for the City of Ventura and Community Development Director for the City of Port Hueneme for a combined public service career spanning 22 years. Since then, Tom has provided (and continues to provide) urban planning services to a host of public and private clients throughout the California central coast. He has also served as an expert witness and lead negotiator in housing and land use litigation in more than a dozen different State and Federal Court cases.

Fresh out of college with a degree in Urban Planning in 1975, Tom immediately started his career at the City of Port Hueneme. During the ensuing 20+ years of his employment with the City, he was one of many who helped transform a community that was once considered an undesirable place to live into what many now refer to as the Jewel of the Gold Coast. This transformation was a team effort and was made possible through a shared sense of ownership and common vision. Tom feels privileged to have been part of this experience and invites you to view the results at www.tomfigg.com under the tab labeled “My Community.”
Tom’s foremost goal is to continue the progress and legacy of Port Hueneme: distinguishing ourselves from other communities, keeping our neighborhoods safe and kid friendly, delivering responsive customer service, maintaining an attractive physical environment, creating mutually supportive partnerships with our key stakeholders, and providing a solid financial basis to sustain municipal services along with a hometown police force. His core values are based on problem-solving through collaboration, transparent and consensus based decision making, fiscal prudence through cost containment and revenue enhancement, and strategic planning as opposed to crisis management.
