Council Member Jonathan Sharkey
Jon Sharkey is in his fourth term as a member of the Port Hueneme City Council. He served as mayor during the city's fiftieth anniversary year in 1998. Council Member Sharkey led the fight against the infamous "view tax", was instrumental in writing and passing Port Hueneme's city charter, and saved Shady the city hall cat from eviction. He is Chair of the Ventura Regional Sanitation District, and is a Director of the Beach Erosion Authority (BEACON). Jon is a 1971 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is married to Dr. Beverly Kelley, professor of communications at California Lutheran University, columnist for the Ventura County Star. Education: University of Massachusetts, Amherst, BA in Mass Communications. Ventura College of Law, Certificate in Mediation. Additional studies in Land Use, Planning, and CEQA issues, University of California - Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Mayor, City of Port Hueneme: for the years 1998, 2003, 2009.
