Neighborhood Preservation manages five affordable housing programs encompassing housing rehabilitation and down payment assistance for first time home buyers.  Neighborhood Preservation staff also coordinates various public services and construction projects including commercial rehabilitation, residential relocation, homeless issues, and management of City/ Redevelopment Agency owned affordable housing units.

Neighborhood Preservation is also responsible for the administration of the City’s federal Community Development Block Grant (“CDBG”) Program. The primary objective of the CDBG program is the development of viable urban communities by undertaking projects to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities for persons of low and moderate-income. Recent CDBG projects have included transitional housing, senior programs at the Community Center, parks and recreation impovements, and public and private housing rehabilitation.
