The Building and Safety Division provides plan check, permits, inspections, and other services related to the demolition, alteration, and new construction of public and private structures. This Division employs a certified Building Official holding one or more code certifications and has primary responsibility for construction administration among City Departments and coordination among project architects, engineers, property owners, and the State Contractor’s Board. |

The
Building Official is responsible for implementing and enforcing State
Energy and Accessibility regulations and the City’s Uniform
Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Housing, and Abatement
of Dangerous Buildings Codes. |

The Building Official also serves as the Rehabilitation Construction Specialist for the City’s Neighborhood Preservation Program and acts as liaison with the Ventura County Fire Protection District that provides the City with emergency and fire inspection services. |
