He also has over fifteen years in management capacities in Pomona, Chino, Claremont, Ontario and the County of San Bernardino. • Creating a Sustainable Financial Future for the City

Grant Awarded to Police Department

The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors have approved the FY 2016 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG). As a member of the Ventura County Operational Area, the City of Port Hueneme is included as a sub-grantee and has been awarded $13,069.  Award amounts are based on each jurisdiction's total percentage of the Ventura County population.  Grant funds must be used to prevent, prepare for, mitigate against, or recover from natural or man-made emergencies and disasters.

The City will utilize the grant funds to offset costs associated with a critical need to improve the Police Department Emergency Operations Center (EOC), a project which includes the purchase of two desktop computer systems, the purchase of thirty chairs and two desks, and the purchase of one color laser printer.

Hueneme Beach Sand Replenishment

Manson Construction and Dredging, the dredging contractor for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, is on site, and dredging operations have commenced.

Transport of the two dredges to Ventura County was delayed by high sea swells, and inclement weather. However both dredges are now here, and the contractor has indicated he should be able to make up time and still plans to complete work by the currently scheduled completion date of early February 2017. This includes the increased sand dredging volume of 1.3 million cubic yards of sand.

Warning signs and fencing have been placed on the promenade area for public protection. Please obey all warning signs posted by the contractor and stay away from the discharge lines for your own safety and efficiency of the sand replenishment operation.

Senior Holiday Luncheon was a Huge Success

Thanks to the generous donations by community members made to the City and to R.E.A.C.H. (Recreation, Education, Arts, Culture in Hueneme) the Senior Holiday Luncheon was held on December 16, 2016 at the Orvene Carpenter Community Center. While City staff coordinated and planned the event, volunteers were very helpful in generating sponsorships for supplies and helped with service at the event. The event was sold out with 150 attendees, and entertainment by Pacific Sound.

Many thanks to the City Council allowing the event at Community Center, and especially to community members that not only raised all funds for this year’s event, but most funds needed for next year!

You may watch a video of the event, produced by Community Member, Tom Dunn posting soon on our Facebook page
